Sarajevo rose

Before going on this trip, as I was looking for information on the city, I found out that Sarajevans have preserved concrete scars by mortar shells on the main streets with red resin. This is a memorial, of sorts, to the atrocities and the victims of the siege. Oddly enough, it took me a few days to notice them–on the pedestrian zone, in front of the cathedral, right in the middle of the streets. I read that on average, there were more than 300 shell impacts per day during the siege–and now, they have become roses.
